is Put In Place

On this day in 1909, the first stone of the Lincoln Memorial is put in place. It was dedicated on May 30, 1922.

Lincoln's only surviving child, Robert Todd Lincoln, was present at the dedication.

On this day in 1809, Abraham Lincoln was born in Hardin County, Kentucky to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks in a one-room log cabin.

Abraham Lincoln is considered by many as the best president the United States has ever had holding the country together during a bloody Civil War which took over 600,000 lives in four years.
