July 8, 1776

According to Legend, the Famous Liberty Bell is Rung

On this day in 1776, according to Legend, the now famous Liberty Bell is rung to summon the public for a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Historians doubt this due to the condition of the steeple at that time, however, the legend lives on and the bell (which was not called the Liberty Bell until 1837) has become one of the most well known symbols of the American Revolution.
