The Book of Mormon is Published
On this day in 1830, the Book of Mormon went on sale at the bookstore of E. B. Grandin in New York. The Book of
Mormon is the sacred text of the Latter Day Saints. It was published by Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the
Latter Day Saint movement and Mormonism.
Joseph Smith, Jr. grew up in New York in the early 1800's and began to reject Protestant sectarianism. In the late
1820's, Smith claimed an angel lead him to a buried book of golden plates. These plates were the inspiration for
the Book of Mormon.
