The First Telegraph Line Between Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland is Officially Opened
On this day in 1844, Samuel Morse officially opened the telegraph line between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland by sending the famous words "What hath God wrought". In May of 1845, the Magnetic Telegraph Company was formed and single wire telegraph lines spread outward from New York City. Samuel Morse received a patent for the telegraph in 1847.
