ON THIS DAY IN UNITED STATES HISTORY
March 21, 1965
The Civil Rights March from Selma to
Montgomery, Alabama is Finally Completed
On this day in 1965 the Selma to Montgomery March was finally successful after two failed attempts.
The first attempt resulted in an incident known as Bloody Sunday where many of the marchers were attacked by
police. It wasn't until the third attempt on March 21 that the march was successful. The route is now memorialized
as a National History Trail.
