Published in the United States for the First Time
On this day in 1885, the book "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" is published in the United States for the first
time. It had already been published in Canada and England the previous year.
The book was about a boy and his friend, Tom Sawyer, growing up on the Mississippi River. It was controversial from
the beginning due to its crude nature and continues to be controversial because of its use of racial
stereotypes.
