Operation Linebacker II Begins
in the Vietnam War

On this day in 1972, the U.S. began a heavy aerial bombardment campaign against targets North Vietnam when peace talks broke down.

This was the heaviest bomber strikes launched by the U.S. Air Force since World War II.
