Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein
is Captured Near Tikrit

On this day in 2003, former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was found hiding in a spider-hole near his home town of Tikrit and taken into custody.

This successful operation, named Operation Red Dawn, was carried out by the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division commanded by Col. James Hickey.
