Opha Mae Johnson Becomes the First Woman
to Enlist in the United States Marine Corps

On this day in 1913, Opha Mae Johnson became the first woman to enlist in the United States Marine Corps when she joined the Marine Corps Reserve.

She was one of 305 women to enlist that day.
