British General Thomas Gage
Declares Martial Law in Massachusetts

On this day in 1775, British General Thomas Gage declared martial law in Massachusetts during the American Revolutionary War.

Gage ordered his troops do spare all colonists who would lay down their arms except for Samuel Adams and John Hancock who were to be hanged.
