Isaac Singer Receives a Patent for his
Improvement to the Sewing Machine
On this day in 1851, Isaac Singer obtained US Patent number 8294 for his improvements to the sewing machine.
In 1856, several different manufacturers began to accuse each other of patent infringements but rather than get
into a never ending legal battle, they decided to join forces and form the Sewing Machine Combination.
