The Grand Canyon Becomes a National Monument
On this day in 1908, the Grand Canyon becomes a National Monument. A National Monument is a protected area that
can be declared by the President where a National Park must be declared by Congress.
The Grand Canyon was not declared a National Park until February 26, 1919.
