Defeat British Forces in Battle of New Orleans
in the War of 1812

On this day in 1815, one of the final major battles in the War of 1812, American forces led by Andrew Jackson, defeat the British Army who were attempting to capture New Orleans

The Treaty of Ghent ending the War of 1812 had already been signed on December 24, 1814 but news of the treaty had not reached New Orleans in time to prevent the battle.
