On this day in 1995, a mass terrorist attack plot known as Project Bojinka is uncovered after a chemical fire in
Manila, Philippines.
The plot, funded by Al-Qaeda, involved blowing up eleven airliners along with the approximately 4,000 passengers on
flights from Asia to the United States. Also involved with the plot was a plan to assassinate Pope John Paul II and
crash a plane into the CIA headquarters.
