General George Armstrong Custer is Born
On this day in 1839 General George Armstrong Custer was born in New Rumley, Ohio. Serving as an officer in the
Army and a cavalry brigade commander during the American Civil War and the Indiana Wars he established a reputation
as being aggressive and willing to take risks.
Although Custer enjoyed a distinguished career during the Civil War, he is most remembered for his defeat at the
Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876 against a group Native American tribes which resulted in the death of himself and
his troops.
