Fort Wilson Riot Begins
On this day in 1779, the Fort Wilson Riot began when a mob marched on congressman James Wilson's house on Third
and Walnut Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The mob was upset with the fact that Wilson had defended 23 people that had been accused of English sympathies
after the British had abandoned Philadelphia during the American Revolutionary War.
