On this day in 1955, the children's television series Captain Kangaroo airs for the first time on CBS.
The basic structure of the show was built on the title character, played by Bob Keeshan, interacting with both
human and puppet characters.
The show was canceled by CBS in 1984 but reappeared on public television in 1986 and ran in its new version until
1993.
